Pregnancy comes with a lot of questions.

Some you ask your friends. Some you ask your midwife.
And some… you Google at 3am when you can’t sleep and something suddenly feels different.

From body changes to comfort, emotions to everyday life, many of these questions are completely normal, even if they don’t always get talked about openly.

So we’ve answered some of the most common pregnancy questions women search for, honestly and simply.

When do you start showing?

Most women start showing between 12–16 weeks, although it can be earlier or later depending on your body and whether it’s your first pregnancy.

In first pregnancies, it’s common to show later, while in second or third pregnancies it will likely happen sooner.

When should I start wearing maternity clothes?

Usually when your normal clothes start to feel uncomfortable which is often towards the end of the first trimester or early second trimester.

There’s no exact week. The best time is simply when you are having to squeeze into what used to fit.

What clothes are best to wear in pregnancy?

Clothes that stretch, breathe and adapt with your body.

Soft fabrics, flexible waistbands, and supportive underwear tend to make the biggest difference. You need all the comfort you can get.

When should you stop sleeping on your back?

Most guidance suggests avoiding sleeping on your back from around 20 weeks onwards.

Sleeping on your side, particularly your left helps support blood flow to the baby.

Why am I feeling so emotional while pregnant?

Hormones play a big role- always the culprit.

Pregnancy brings significant hormonal changes, along with physical shifts and a huge life transition. Feeling more emotional, sensitive or overwhelmed is completely normal.

Why do some smells turn my stomach?

Your sense of smell becomes stronger during pregnancy due to hormonal changes.

There’s also a theory this may have helped women historically avoid spoiled or harmful foods. Our founder used to make her husband drink his coffee in the kitchen with the door closed as the smell made her nauseous! Ha

When will I feel my baby kick?

Most women feel movement between 16–22 weeks.

At first it may feel like small flutters or bubbles rather than obvious kicks. Over time, movements become stronger and easier to recognise.

When should I start maternity leave?

In the UK, maternity leave can start from 11 weeks before your due date.

Many women choose to begin around 36–38 weeks, but it depends entirely on how you’re feeling and your circumstances.

There’s no perfect time — just what feels right for you.

When do I stop wearing my maternity underwear?

Many women continue wearing maternity underwear into postpartum while their bodies recover.

You can switch back whenever your regular underwear feels comfortable again.
